Business Systems Analyst  – Job Description

  • Reporting to the Manager, Business Systems & Innovation, the Business Systems Analyst is responsible for partnering with and understanding both the daily business process and intricacies in workflow of external departments for the purpose of representing the technical voice of other areas of the business in the IT department. Through this partnership the Business Systems Analyst will partner with the external departments to understand requirements and provide recommendations for solutions or improvements which can be achieved through new technology or alternative uses of existing technology.

    When an improvement is identified the Business Systems Analyst is responsible for interviews with representatives and stakeholders, creating workflow diagrams, user stories, and other supporting material to translate the business need into well-defined requirements. Deliverables will be seen through to a successful launch, implementation and acceptance by the stakeholders.

    You will be responsible for owning the voice of your business clients and advocating for them within the IT department.  The Business Systems Analyst will build strong, collaborative relationships with business clients and assist them in achieving or exceeding their business goals and objectives.

    • Work with end users to resolve day to day business problems using the functionality of Microsoft Dynamics and other business applications supported by the department.
    • Liaise with business groups and other Technology teams in capturing requirements, change requests, identifying business / technical impacts and managing partner expectations.
    • Develop and maintain understanding of customer workflows and business needs.
    • Assess feature requests and understand the "why" to identify underlying business problems.
    • Contribute to the planning, design, development and deployment of new applications and enhancements to existing applications
    • Lead in testing of system changes and coordinate User Acceptance Testing by creating and executing Test Plans.
    • Support strategic, tactical and recurring projects by performing configuration setup requirements and preparing and executing test scenarios to ensure error free applications.
    • Create and maintain system documentation, including operations manuals and team knowledge bases.
    • Provide functional and technical application expertise to the user community
    • Provide end user support, orientation, and training on software systems for SMEs, including making recommendations on where software can improve process and reduce friction.
    • Follow-up with business stakeholders to ensure that there are no requirement roadblocks waiting to be addressed
    • Perform system analysis and support to assist with special events and projects as needed.
    • Partner with department leads to ensure communication regarding changes, updates, and improvements are communicated to the rest of the business in an efficient and timely manner.
    • Act as liaison between the organization and application vendors as required for implementation, problem resolution, application upgrades and bug fixes.
    • Manage expectations of multiple business stakeholders.
    • Work collaboratively with clients to define and prioritize technology initiatives that will bring the most business benefit.
    • Lead initiatives that result in new and better ways of doing business.
    • Collaborate with various technical team members to develop high level labor and project estimates.

Business Systems Analyst  – Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years experience working in Information Systems.
  • 2+ years Functional / Technical experience with either of Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012, Microsoft Dynamics 365 F&O or another similar ERP
  • Experience in application development and support and delivery.
  • Ability to create solid FRD, FDD, Fit Gap documents.
  • Experience with peripherals: receipt printers, scanners, payment terminals, scales, etc.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to prioritize workload and meet multiple project deadlines.
  • Excellent written & communication skills.
  • Experiencing writing, managing, and performing test scenarios for software development or configuration.
  • Dynamics AX Microsoft Certification is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of programming concepts, design, procedures, and practices.
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 or Dynamics AX 2012
  • Experience in the beauty and/or consumer packaged goods industry.
  • Experience with AIF or similar application integration solutions, for connecting AX to 3rd party or custom-built external systems.
